Download Help
The PUC publishes files in a variety of formats. Some of these files may require
additional software. Any additional software necessary can be
found from the links below and is free. Information on compressed files
(.exe) is also found below.
- Microsoft Word (.doc) and Microsoft Excel (.xls)
-
Installing a Microsoft Converter or Viewer
will allow you to read Word or Excel files if you have an older version of the
respective program or if you do not have Microsoft applications at all.
- Adobe Acrobat (.pdf)
- These files can be accessed by intalling the Acrobat Reader.
Once the Reader is installed the files can be viewed directly from your browser.
How to Print PDF Files: When printing Adobe Acrobat PDF files from within your web browser, do NOT use the web browser print facility. Instead, use the print button at the left end of the special Adobe Acrobat tool bar, which appears immediately above the viewing window. See illustration below for location of this print button.
How to Save PDF Files: To save the file for later use once you have loaded it for viewing, on most browsers you just select "File" then "Save As..." from the menu bar. To just save without viewing, place the cursor over the link to the pdf file, hold down the shift key and click the mouse. This should bring up the "Save As" window.
- TIF (.tif or .tiff)
- These are multi-page image files, generally found on our Interchange site. They can be viewed on Windows based machines with the Windows Image Viewer located under Start – Programs – Accessories – Imaging. For Macintosh computers, a viewer must be downloaded from the internet such as Jade.
These files cannot be viewed correctly with Adobe Photoshop or Acrobat Reader.
- Tab Delimited (.txt)
- This format allows users to import tab delimited data into any spreadsheet software. This format is offered as an alternative to the data that is either in Excel spreatsheets or as a searchable database.
To work with tab delimited files:
1. Save the file locally.
- Right click with your mouse, and select Save as (or Save link as)
- Select the directory you want to save into or create a directory to save it to.
2. Open your spreadsheet software.
- Either open or import the saved file.
- This should start an import routine - simply follow the instructions as they present themselves.
- Rich Text Format (.rtf)
- This format allows users that are not on the PC platform or use Microsoft programs to read
these documents. Any current word processor should be able to read these documents.
- Executable (.exe)
- These files are self-extracting compressed files that can be expanded by (after downloading) double clicking
on the file in your windows explorer. These .exe contain either extremely large or multiple files. You can review a more
detailed explanation below.
To work with executables:
1. Save the file locally.
- Right click with your mouse, and select Save as (or Save link as)
- Select the directory you want to save into or create a directory to save it to.
2. Run the executable.
- In windows explorer locate the downloaded .exe file. Doubleclick on the file.
- An Unzip window will appear. Select the folder you wish the files to be unziped to and then hit the Unzip buttom.
3. You can now use the (unziped) file. (It should have a familiar file extension).
Mac users - you can use Stuffit Expander Software by Alladin Systems
to extract the .exe files that are on the PUC website.
Note: You can save any file by Right-clicking on any download link, and selecting "Save Target As" (IE) or "Save Link As" (Netscape)
